The KraussMaffei site tour
KraussMaffei colleagues all over the world develop, build and maintain our machines. In the following series, we want to take a closer look at some of our locations and give you an insight into the KraussMaffei plant landscape. Our next stop will be Treuchtlingen!
The Treuchtlingen site in Middle Franconia, Bavaria, is the third-largest KraussMaffei site in Germany. Since December 2023, the plant has been managed by Thomas Tristl.
Plastics machine construction has a long tradition in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district. Eckert & Ziegler Spritzgußmaschinen has been writing plastics technology history in Weißenburg since 1926.
Purchased by KraussMaffei in 1964, the company moved to a new building with 5400 m² of hall space in neighboring Treuchtlingen in 1992.
Specialists for small quantities and high quality
Today, around 150 employees manufacture core components and assemblies mainly for KraussMaffei machines, both for injection molding and extrusion.
The Treuchtlingen-based company specializes in short-term, highly efficient production in small quantities. In the production of spare parts, plasticizing, hydraulic blocks and assemblies, it is not only quality that counts, but also fast response times to short-term requirements.

What makes the job as plant manager of our third-largest site in Germany so special?
Thomas Tristl
The site is still small enough that people there see themselves as one big family and want to make things happen together. Short distances, high flexibility and direct communication make many processes simple and fast here.

On the subject of cooperation: no site in our plant network stands alone. How can we imagine cooperation with the Parsdorf headquarters, but also with other sites?
Thomas Tristl
When I came on board in the fall of 2023, I was welcomed openly at all interfaces. We are in constant contact via MS teams. Through various visits to the sites in Parsdorf or Laatzen and vice versa, I was able to get to know many of my contacts personally. This also takes virtual contact to another level.

What activities are there at the site on the subject of sustainability?
Thomas Tristl
We are involved in the project with Treuchtlingen, for example, but there we are working more on long-term measures (e.g. hydrogen use). However, we are also implementing short-term measures here at the site, such as the use of waste heat in systems or currently the installation of a ventilation system with heat recovery. Another interesting investment is our new Hydraulic Center: This has enabled us to significantly reduce the manufacturing costs of hydraulic blocks and unmanned shifts contribute to new, more pleasant working time models for employees.
World cultural heritage just around the corner
By the way: The region around Treuchtlingen is also home to historical and scenic treasures. Particularly noteworthy: the Roman Limes, which is a World Heritage Site, the Renaissance fortress of Wülzburg near Weißenburg and the Altmühl valley, which is considered one of the most beautiful river valleys in Germany.
