KraussMaffei and Coscollola: 65 years of a strong partnership
| Julia Reich

Trust, technological expertise, and customer proximity across generations in Spain

For around 65 years, KraussMaffei and Coscollola have represented technological excellence in the Spanish plastics market. What began as a personal connection has evolved into a partnership of equals – defined by trust, close customer relationships, and holistic solutions.

From pioneering spirit to a successful engineering partnership

What started several decades ago as a personal relationship developed into an exceptionally enduring success story. A close connection to mechanical engineering shaped the current CEO of Coscollola, Ricardo Coscollola Nieuwenhuis, from the very beginning: his grandfather’s company was already active in this field, and later his father, Enrique Coscollola, gained initial experience at Eckert & Ziegler – later part of KraussMaffei.

When KraussMaffei began seeking international partners in the early 1960s, technical expertise, mutual trust, and a shared vision came together to form the basis of a long-term collaboration. This laid the foundation for a partnership of equals – driven by technical excellence, reliability, and close customer relationships.

KraussMaffei in Spain – with strong local presence

Based in Barcelona, Coscollola has represented KraussMaffei in the Spanish market for around 65 years. Over time, technological transformations, economic cycles, and generational changes have continuously strengthened the collaboration. Today, Coscollola employs 35 people and operates service locations in Valencia, Madrid, and Andalusia.

Sales, technical consulting, engineering, and after-sales services are all provided from a single source. For customers in Spain, Coscollola is the central point of contact for all injection molding and extrusion solutions from KraussMaffei.

More than machines: holistic solutions for the plastics industry

Guided by the principle that "Partnership connects," Coscollola and KraussMaffei pursue a common goal: delivering not just machines, but tailored, end-to-end solutions. Across industries – from automotive and packaging to compounding and recycling – both companies support their customers from the initial idea through to series production and beyond.

The focus is always on expert technical consulting, process optimization, and sustainable improvements in quality and cost efficiency. Especially in Spain’s strongly automotive-driven market, this partnership approach is a key success factor.

Technologies such as multi-component applications, the Injection Molding Compounder (IMC), ColorForm, as well as complex large-scale machinery and extrusion solutions for high-performance compounding and recycling, have repeatedly set new standards and significantly shaped technological progress in recent decades.

Shared milestones with real impact

One particularly defining chapter in this collaboration is the success of the IMC technology. By combining a continuous compounding process of extrusion with discontinuous injection molding, new opportunities were created for Spanish automotive customers: lightweight construction instead of metal, and functional integration instead of assembly.

For one key customer, this resulted in the development of a nearly unrivaled market position – enabled by precisely tailored machine technology, intensive process support, and close coordination between KraussMaffei, Coscollola, and additional partners. This highlights the core strength of the partnership: solutions are developed jointly, and responsibility is shared.

Strong partnerships don’t emerge overnight – they grow through trust, shared successes, and open communication when it matters. This is exactly what defines our relationship with our Spanish representative: high technical expertise, a clear focus on customer value, and a strong solution-oriented mindset. This collaboration is a true success factor for us in the market.

Values that connect

The partnership is characterized by transparency, reliability, and the highest technical standards. Challenges are not avoided but solved together – constructively, loyally, and always in the best interest of customers. Coscollola’s close proximity to the market adds agility to the collaboration, enabling fast, precise, and well-informed responses.

This mindset is also reflected in everyday work: at trade fairs, open house events, sales meetings, and in direct project business. Over the years, this has evolved into more than just a functional cooperation – it has become a mature partnership built on trust and shared responsibility.

Looking ahead: new plastics technologies for Spain

Looking to the future, the partnership remains firmly focused on continuous development. Technologies such as ColorForm, DCIM, FiberForm, as well as new compounding and recycling solutions, will significantly shape the market in the years to come.

KraussMaffei and Coscollola are committed to driving this transformation together. From a partnership built over decades, one thing stands out above all: a success story that continues to evolve – with a clear focus on the customer.
