Live @NPE: Matrix lenses made of LSR
| Petra Rehmet
Every part a good part thanks to APCplus
Thanks to their outstanding physical properties, liquid silicones - LSR for short - are constantly conquering new areas of application and offer great opportunities for growth. Visitors to the NPE in Orlando, Florida (May 6-10) can experience the production of matrix lenses for headlights live at the KraussMaffei booth.
Silicones, especially liquid silicones (LSR), are particularly impressive due to their flexibility, chemical and heat resistance as well as their outstanding physical properties.
Thanks to these positive properties, they are constantly opening up new applications in a wide range of sectors, for example in medical technology, the automotive industry, sport and leisure and the consumer goods industry.
However, their processing is demanding and presents processors with challenges when it comes to precision and consistency in the injection molding process.
KraussMaffei will be demonstrating how this can be achieved at the NPE. An all-electric PX 121-180 SilcoSet produces matrix lenses for headlights in the automotive industry.
The APCplus machine function supports the process and ensures sustainable production by continuously analyzing the injection molding process and quickly compensating for material and environmental fluctuations in melt viscosity.
This ensures consistently high component quality and reduces rejects to a minimum.
Partnership with mold manufacturer ACH Solution
The two cavity LSR matrix mold comes from mold specialist ACH Solution providing best temperature balancing even with longer scheduled downtimes. The ACH Servoshot 2G stands for precise needle valve regulation.
The linear robot LRX 150 from KraussMaffei together with EOT from ACH Solution allows an inline production with inspections, weight check and separation and complete this demanding application.
