What topics did Netstal focus on at Fakuma 2018?

Renzo Davatz

This year's Netstal presentation was a strong signal to the market. And that applied to innovation in the physical machine as well as in the field of user-oriented control. Added to this were our innovative solutions in the field of digitization, which offer our customers direct added value.

Which machine and application were presented?

Renzo Davatz

Netstal presented a high-speed ELIOS 4500 at the KraussMaffei Group booth. Thin-walled plant pots were produced using a 6-cavity mold from Glaroform. Despite the high speed, the cycle time of around 2.8 seconds, and the powerful injection performance, the machine ran particularly effortlessly and smoothly. To our delight, the interest of the audience was tremendous.

How did the alluded running smoothness of the machine show itself?

One of our employees spontaneously placed a 5-franc coin on a flat surface of the injection unit. The coin remained still for hours, both in the longitudinal and transverse directions. A small unplanned detail, but one that many observers were very enthusiastic about. They checked to see that the coin wasn't stuck on.

What does Netstal's user-oriented control solution look like?

Renzo Davatz

The "Smart Operation" control – reduced to 4 keys – was very well received by our visitors. The latest generation of the axos control system works in the background with all possibilities for fine and professional adjustment of demanding processes, while in the foreground the operator can prepare, start up, and then extend the production again using the 4 new "Smart Buttons". This smart combination of the two different working levels was highly appreciated by our customers.

Everyone is talking about digitization. What are the latest developments of the KraussMaffei Group and Netstal?

Renzo Davatz

With the "Digital Service Solutions" business unit that was set up this summer, the KraussMaffei Group – under the leadership of Nadine Despineux – is pressing ahead with the company’s digitalization. However, many innovations continue to come from the traditional segments, especially when it comes to combining our machine technology with new digital offerings. Good examples of this are the e-Service and the AnalytiX evaluation tool. Both products were developed by Netstal as so-called "speedboats", and they are currently being rolled out to our customers worldwide. These Netstal products will now be applied to all KraussMaffei products across the board.
